How to Read the AX Score

The AX Score is our way of showing how accessible a website or web app is for all types of users—including people with different abilities. Instead of giving you just a long list of technical issues, we’ve created a simple scoring method that explains accessibility in an easy-to-read, meaningful way.

Think of it like a health report card for your website’s accessibility.

AX Score (Out of 10)

The AX Score is always shown as a number between 0 and 10.

It reflects the overall accessibility experience of your website or app.

A higher number means the site is more comfortable and inclusive for everyone, including people with disabilities.

Think of it like a performance rating:

  • 10 / 10 = Excellent accessibility

  • 7 or 8 / 10 = Good, but with a few barriers

  • Below 5 / 10 = Significant barriers that need urgent attention

This single number gives you a holistic view, instead of confusing you with technical issue counts.

How We Describe the Score

To help you quickly understand what kind of accessibility problems exist, we add two descriptors alongside the score:

  • Impact → how strongly the issues affect people’s ability to use the site

    • Low Impact → minor inconveniences

    • Medium Impact → noticeable friction

    • High Impact → serious blocks for users

  • Distribution → how widespread the issues are across the site

    • Localized → appears only in a few pages or sections

    • Distributed → appears across many pages or the entire site

👉 Example: 9.0 – Low Impact, Localized
This means: the site is overall very accessible, problems are small, and only present in some areas.

The Levels (A, AA, AAA) Pass Percentage

Websites are tested against international accessibility standards called WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines). These have three levels of compliance:

  • Level A – Basic accessibility (must-have).

  • Level AA – Strong accessibility (recommended standard for most organizations).

  • Level AAA – The highest level of accessibility (harder, but ideal).

For each level, we show you the percentage of rules your site passed.
